A key tenet to any sustainable manufacturing model is the choice and sourcing practices of the materials to produce a given product. DUNBAR's geographic location provides local access to most of the materials necessary to produce high quality furnishings. Many of these materials come from natural sources that are managed with sustainable practices and are within a 250 mile radius of our production facility.
The beauty of our products is enhanced by the variation in appearance that occurs in nature. Wood is the most dominant class of materials used in crafting our products and along with metal dominates the finished appearance.
WOOD
Solid wood and veneers are selected from the best possible sources. DUNBAR makes every effort to balance variations in color, grain value and pattern that naturally occur. American walnut, hard maple, soft maple and ash are used in most of our furniture, however, we have the ability to source a number of wood species depending on the needs of a given project. DUNBAR offers a standard set of finishes but can also match a specific finish. Please select the following link for an outline of the wood species and respective finish colors offered by DUNBAR.
METAL
The metal detail on DUNBAR designs serves a combination of structural purpose and visual appeal. The primary metals used include solid aluminum, stainless steel and brass. Most metal parts are machined from solid stock with a few brass parts that are produced using a casting process.
